Cocktails of Bangkok!

Are you sick of the typical English pub clichés, Carling not quenching your thirst? Is your Coke and Rum causing a despairing roll of the eyes in your face region? Well seen as it's summer in what appears to be name more than climate, we thought we would treat you lovely people to some Thai inspired red hot cocktails - courtesy of the Lady Boys of Bangkok. Why not add a splash of colour to your summer?

So this is how it's going to work, first there will be a list of ingredients, then maybe a picture and a short description with some possible puns thrown in for good measure, the perfect recipe for a cocktail recipe blog (is that a pun?). Anyway first up is a cocktail named after it's deserty forefather, Mango Sticky Rice a popular desert in Thailand which now comes in a handy drinkable form.

   What you'll need:
  • 2 oz. Rice Vodka (You can use grainy normal vodka as well)
  • 2 oz. Malibu Rum
  • 1/2 Whole Fresh Mango
  • 1/2 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 oz. Vanilla Syrup
  • Pinch of Sesame
  • Coconut Cream

All's you need do is mix the first 5 ingredients, serve in a Martini glass add a piece of the half mango to the side, then sprinkle the sesame seed and pour the coconut cream on top!  Relatively simply and unabashedly delicious!  The above picture is what it should look like, but don't be at all ashamed if it ends up looking like the picture below, we know ours did.

Now with your whistle properly wetted why not try this luxurious beverage? Dubbed Tom Yum Siam, the namesake of which comes from Tom Yum soup which is a Thai spicy and sour soup. This may not sound to appealing at this stage, but hang in there.

   What you'll need:
  • Vodka
  • Lemon-grass
  • Lychee syrup
  • Ground chillies (not too spicy though)

Like we said, it may not look to appetising but aesthetics aside  it actually ends up a rather sweet cocktail, with a little bit spice thrown in to catch your mouth off guard! Remember to take it easy on the chilli though, one wouldn't want to blow ones face off...

Something which is a bit simpler on both the pallet and wallet is the Passion Fruit Caipiorska, which is kind of Thai twist of this popular South American cocktail.

    What you'll need:
  • Passion Fruit
  • Lime
  • Vodka
  • Crushed Ice (or just ice, you can crush it yourself)

Simply mix the Lime juice, Vodka and the juices from the Passion fruit, then pour into a glass of crushed ice! If your feeling extra Heston Blumenthaly you even can take the rind of the Lime and have it float atop the drink, or on the side of the glass! Wa-lah a simple and sweet drink to spice up the dingy evenings!

If your still standing after these alcohol infused treats we now how a special drink for you, our very own Lady Boys of Bangkok - Red Hot Kisses cocktail - the originally named Red Hot Kiss (trademark pending) !!

   What you'll need:

(Unfortunately the alcohol cabinet has recently been raided here in the office so we are not able to provide a picture, so here's a picture of a cat drinking tequila instead)
